Swine Feeds
Feed is a major contributor to pig production costs, and an optimized feeding program will ensure that a farmer is seeing the absolute best productivity returns for their spend. The key to this is providing pigs with the right nutrients in the right balance at each of the critical stages of their life cycle. Viking Pig Feeds are formulated on sound scientific principles including nutrient designs for the correct protein/amino acid and energy balance. The feeds are manufactured for the optimum production and growth during the various stages of the pig’s life.
While all pigs require balanced nutrients, their specific requirements will depend on other factors, including breed, sex, stage of life, and environment (outdoor versus indoor housing). The health and wellbeing of your pigs depends
on reaching the right feed, specific to their needs. This is the primary goal of the Viking Feeds.
Our pig feeds fall into two major categories:
a) Sow and Weaner
A high-energy feed which is highly palatable and easily digestible, specifically formulated for growing and breeding pigs.
• Provides lactating sows with the daily nutrients required for optimal milk production, piglet vitality and growth, body condition, re-mating and longevity.
• Supports optimal and efficient growth through the growing phase.
b) Pig Finisher
A highly palatable and digestible feed specifically formulated for the right nutrient balance to take growing pigs through to market or breeding. The feed supports optimal and efficient lean weight gain.
Pig Feeding Recommendations
1) When changing from one feed to another, it is important to run the transition over a 3 – 5 day period, to allow the pigs to adjust without any loss in appetite and feed conversion efficiency.
2) Keep the feed as fresh as possible and remove any spoiled feed from the feeders to encourage optimal intake.
3) Ensure that pigs have access to clean, fresh water at all times.
4) To improve slaughter quality, excess feed intake should be prevented. If needed limit feed intake of castrates.
