Layer Feeds Range

Layers are bred primarily for commercial egg production, an important objective in helping to meet the nutritional needs of growing populations. Eggs provide an inexpensive and valuable source of nourishment. Weight for weight, an egg contains about the same amount of animal protein as pork and poultry meat, about three-quarters that of beef and two-thirds that of whole milk cheese. These chickens are prolific, easy to raise and their output can be generally expanded more rapidly and easily than that of other livestock. Furthermore, they are adaptable to various climates and altitudes.

Layer birds are a special highbred hens usually weighing about 1.4 – 2 kilograms (kg). They are raised from day old to when they start laying eggs commercially as early as 18 weeks of age. They remain laying eggs continuously till their 72-78 weeks of age. Viking Layer Feeds are formulated for balanced protein, energy, vitamins and minerals necessary for health, vitality and high productivity of layers with good egg size and maintain high production for a long period.

  1. Chick Starter Mash

Feed specifically designed for chicks being reared as replacements for the layer flock from day one to eight weeks of age. Viking Chick starter Mash contain :

  • High energy, protein and essential amino acids for good early growth
  • Balanced amino acids for good weight gain
  • Balanced calcium and phosphorus for bone development and strength
  • A wide range of vitamins, minerals and trace elements for chick health and development
  • The coccidiostats to prevent coccidiosis

 Feeding Recommendations

Provide Chick Starter mash ad libitum to chicks and replace on a daily basis to ensure that feed remains fresh. For day old chicks, the feed can be scattered around on newspaper to encourage chicks to start consuming the feed. Chicks should always be provided with an unlimited supply of clean, fresh water. On average each chick consumes a total of 2kgs over the 8 week period. VIKING FEEDS Chick Starter Mash is medicated with modern coccidiostats which is for the control and treatment of coccidiosis in young birds. Do not feed to hens laying eggs for human consumption. If feed is ingested by hens, eggs must be discarded for 14 days after last ingestion of feed.

  1. Pullet Grower Mash

This is a complete feed specifically designed for growing pullets from 9 weeks to point of laying usually 18 weeks of age. Nutritionally balanced feed to ensure a strong and healthy development of pullets with a minimum of 1.5kgs live weight at a point of lay and to help prevent overweight pullets.

Feeding Recommendations 

  • Ensure gradual feed change over to minimize change over stress by mixing Chick Starter Mash with Pullet Grower Mash for 3-4 days before Starter Feed is completely withdrawn.
  • Ensure birds have continuous access to feed – do not restrict feed consumption.
  • On average each growing pullet consumes a total of 7kgs of Viking Feeds Pullet Growers Mash over this 10 weeks period
  • Ensure that pullets have access to clean, fresh water at all times.
  • Care for growing stock according to the instructions of your chicks supplier.

Layer Mash

Viking Feeds Layer Mash is a complete feed for laying chickens formulated for balanced protein, energy, vitamins and minerals necessary for health, vitality and high productivity of layers with good egg size, shell quality and bone strength. VIKING LAYERS MASH is formulated with natural pigments to give egg yolk a unique natural golden yellow colour.

Feeding Recommendations

  • Ensure hens have continuous access to Layer Mash on a daily basis and do not restrict feed consumption.
  • Appropriate consumption of each layer bird is 130-140gms of Viking Feeds Layers Mash per day.
  • Hens should have an unlimited source of clean, fresh water available at all times.
